Reykjavík Folk Dance Festival was part of a series of works commissioned and curated by Alexander Roberts under the title Artist-on-Loan. With this work in particular, Alexander worked closely with the choreographer Ásrún Magnúsdóttir in developing the concept and shaping the dramaturgy.

Artist-on-Loan was produced by The Festival – an experimental performing arts platform with the agenda of experimenting with the festival as a format through various one-off curatorial initiatives. The Festival was founded and artistically led by Ásgerður G. Gunnarsdóttir and Alexander Roberts.
