Curating with Unlikely Collaborators – A one-day symposium at Zodiak – Centre for New Dance, Helsinki Curated by Alexander Roberts, Katja Kirsi and Harri Kuorelahti. December 2019.
Since 2015, Reykjavík Dance Festival has been working with a group of young curators under the title Teenagers in Reykjavík. The group have curated festivals in swimming pools, theatres, galleries and bedrooms; art conferences in a greenhouse and a music hall; as well as workshops, radio shows and one-off performances in art and non-art spaces around the city. For Reykjavík Dance Festival this on-going experiment is part of a broader curatorial agenda that seeks to question who in the city gets to speak through the festival platform and on whose terms.
This day-long symposium creates a space for sharing aspects of Teenagers in Reykjavík's approach and seeks out conversation partners in Helsinki in order to further reflect on the implications of institutional and artistic initiatives and experiments that focus on the redistribution of agency within the arts.
This symposium is curated by Co-Director of Reykjavik Dance Festival Alexander Roberts, Katja Kirsi and Harri Kuorelahti from Zodiak.
